Tell us about yourself

My name is Richard but people call me SOLMAN (pronounced Soul-Man). I am a musician from Trinidad and Tobago, and my joy is creating and playing music to help us remember the beauty of life. I’m working on my first ever EP “Creation Vibration”- groovy and soulful songs that reconnect us with the awe and the beauty of life. The first step in making this dream a reality is raising the necessary funds through my Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign.

What influences your music?

I have been playing music since I was thirteen. My passion took me to The Berklee College of Music in 2008 where I studied for two years until I decided to come home to be with my father who was battling cancer. He would pass away just two weeks after my return.

I found myself wondering deeply why there seemed to be so much suffering in life, and what was really meaningful and true – I looked to nature for answers.

All of my songs have come from this profound journey and are full of themes of love, hope, healing, and the exquisite beauty of our humanity – the celebration, the longing, the hopes, the heartbreak, the sweetness, the loss, the joys and the fears.

How do people  react to your music?

My sound is deeply influenced by the life and vibe of Trinidad and Tobago – the breezy feeling of the beaches and rivers, the heavily rhythmic beat in all of our music, the celebration and sweetness in the eyes and hearts of the people.

I feel such a deep humble gratitude when I share my songs and people reach out to me with teary eyes and bright faces to tell me how much they were touched or inspired by my music. Moments like that make it all worthwhile, and it’s my dream now to share my songs with as many people as I can.

What are working on at the moment?

My goal is to create a five-song EP full of vibes to make your heart sing, soul celebrate and body dance. The songs have all been written and I am set to work with the awesome team at Kin Sound Studios in St. Anns, Trinidad, to produce and record them.

but…to get this done, I need a little help from my friends and fellow Trinbagonians.

As you probably know…studio recording is always a costly process. In order to create this EP, I need support to help pay for studio time, musicians, mixing and mastering fees, printing and distribution costs, and marketing fees. Then the magic can happen! (See a complete breakdown of the costs below).

In return for the support, I have created some wonderful gifts which include items like my book of poems and musings, a pre order of my EP, a concert at your home, a hand painted guitar and loads more.

This campaign officially launched on November 7th and in less than 24hrs I had reached 25% of my goal. The outpouring of support has surpassed my wildest dreams but there is still a way to go. The campaign runs until December 14th, which means I have just over three weeks to meet my goal!
