Trinidad and Tobago-Cuba Educational and Cultural Exchange organization held a dance workshop at the Central Regional Indoor Sports Arena in Chaguanas on Monday 14th January featuring the Cuban dance group Habana Compas. The workshop was facilitated by Trinidadian Dr. Satnarine Balkaransingh, a well known Indian Classical Kathak Dancer and involved comparing the two dance forms Flamenco and Kathak.

The Cubans are scheduled to perform at NAPA on Friday 18th and at SAPA on Sunday 20th. The technique of Kathak and its similarities to Flamenco was lectured on by Dr. Balkaransingh and demonstrated by his student  Reshma Seetahal, it was then the Cuban group’s turn to demonstrate elements of the Flamenco and African influenced dances. The audience was also given a short class on Flamenco, Salsa and Rumba. The workshop ended with Dr.Satnarine Balkaransingh giving a short lesson in Kathak to the visiting Cuban dancers.
